Black Hands & Stunning Wines
We are very excited at Simply HQ to be taking what we do in Staffordshire to the whole of Great Britain this Autumn – Simply Great Britain is on it’s way – celebrating, supporting & connecting stand out indie businesses.
Inevitably this has meant that we have started to discover some amazing indie businesses beyond the boundaries of our home county – a dream job frankly and we thought we’d start to share some highlights.
First up is a gorgeous business, Black Hand Wine, based in an inspirational square of indie businesses called Brunswick Yard Antiques & Salvage Centre in Penrith in the Lake District. Imagine wandering along the pavement and turning a corner into what can only be described as a treasure trove of bricolage, a cafe, book shop, wood fired pizza oven and a Turkish carpet restorer to mention a few. Take a few more steps through and you discover a magic corner – home to Black Hand Wine.
Run by master wine maker and expert, Sam Jary, Black Hand Wine (so named after the colour of wine makers hands) specialises in organic, bio dynamic and ‘honest’ wines sold bottled and straight from the cask. With many years of making experience in New Zealand & France, Sam has now brought his passion back home, selling stunning wine with love & careful attention as well as delicious proseccos, local ales & even the much admired Harris Gin. Sam not only knows many of the wine producers, he also hosts special tasting evenings and events too.
Visiting Black Hand Wine was a gorgeous reminder of the magic of running a business from the heart which provides such beauty to the owner and customer alike. Set in a community of warm, passionate business owners, a visit to Black Hand Wine is a must for any visit to Cumbria.
